As the mother of a new baby you can imagine how important getting a good night sleep is to me. It doesn’t happen often but when I do finally get to sleep for longer stretches the last thing I want is to wake up with a sore neck or back from my pillow.
Unfortunately this has happened more often than I like to admit so I welcomed the opportunity to be fitted for the proper pillow by the experts at Sleep Country.
I had no idea how many factors can come into play when you are trying to choose the right pillow. The employee I worked with was very knowledgeable and thorough and took the time to really understand my sleeping patterns so he could assess exactly what kind of support I needed when sleeping. He explained that there are a few important factors to consider, the first being the firmness of your mattress. The softness or firmness of your mattress has a huge impact on the position of your neck in relation to your pillow. The second being sleep position, being a side sleeper as opposed to a back sleeper completely alters the type of pillow you will require. Lastly is your physical stature, a more petite person will require different support than a taller, larger framed person.
My mattress is relatively soft and I tend to sleep on my side so those two factors coupled with my tall frame led us to a line of pillows that are a bit firmer and offer more support for my neck. I was given many options to try out within this family of products and eventually settled on a pillow I love.
I have to say this was an eye opening experience and I’m really glad I did it. When you think about it most of us spend money on quality shoes to support our feet so why should a pillow be any different. You spend on average 8 hours a day with it so it makes sense to take the time to research and invest in the one that’s best for you.
